With the competitive season over the club knows that some players will take a break or use their time to prioritise academic studies . For those who continue training we look to keep the players active, engaged and enjoying their involvement in basketball and with the club.
So on Tuesday 8th April we launch the 2025 version of SPRING LEAGUE which is a format we have used successfully before in the Off Season from April to July . The League brings together the players from the NBL Under 16 and Under 14 squads and the Under 16 Development team who are then divided into 3 teams that are selected to balance age groups and abilities to compete against each other in a variety of long and short formats. The sessions are every Tuesday between 6pm and 8pm at North Halifax Grammar School and are included in any monthly subscription packages.
We also know that in the off season attendance can sometimes be less regular for some players so although we have teams there is plenty of room for any players to attend as and when they can make it and they will be fully included.
WHAT IS SPRING LEAGUE ?
The players who attend are divided into 3 balanced teams by experienced coaches Ibrar Mustafa and David Jane who will run the sessions.
The 3 Spring League teams are:
Explorers RED who will be coached by Sam Bamford . Sam has represented the club at Junior NBL Level and now plays for Calderdale Hawks in the Leeds Local League (Adult) League .Homepage Here
Explorers WHITE who will be coached by Matthew Kay who has represented both Calderdale Explorers and Bradford Dragons at Junior NBL Level and now plays for Calderdale Explorers Senior Team in the NBL (Adult) Conference League.Homepage Here
Explorers GOLD who will be coached by Anthony Dalfiume . Anthony was involved with Calderdale Juniors and now plays for Calderdale Hawks in the Leeds Local League (Adult) League .Homepage Here
Every Tuesday as part of the sessions the teams will play each other in a round robin format and earn 2 points for a win which will then go towards a League Table with a winner crowned at the end of July.
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE WEEKLY SESSION?
The session will start with a muscle warm up followed by a skills warm up delivered by Coaches Ibrar and David for approximately 30 minutes . The teams will then spilt for 30 minutes and then receive team training from their coaches ( Matthew, Sam & Anthony)
For injury prevention . The last hour of the session will be devoted to the mini round robin tournament. There are a few small rules changes for these games to ensure we make the most of the time.
WHAT ARE SUPER SATURDAYS?
On one Saturday in each of May, June & July . Two of the three teams will compete in a full 4 quarter match under NBL rules . Winners of the tie will be awarded 8 points in the ongoing League Table, the other team will receive 2 . The players attendance on Tuesdays in Spring League are part of the monthly subscription package. (To cover the court costs for the additional Saturdays there will be a £6 charge on the day for players who participate)
WHAT ARE GAME CHANGERS ?
For the majority of the Tuesday night round robin games normal rules will apply. But on occasion we will have some exciting new GAME CHANGERS to keep it fresh . As to what the game changers are they will be a nice surprise for the players when the time comes .
Weekly results and League Tables will be available online each week .
