Welcome to Spring League 2025

David Jane30 Mar - 14:45

Internal League Launch

With the competitive season over the club knows that some players will take a break or use their time to prioritise academic studies . For those who continue training we look to keep the players actively engaged and in competition mode to develop their physical and social skills so we are launching Spring League in the Tuesday Night slot from April to July. (Spring League was successfully run in 2023 and we have made some exciting changes to keep it delivering an enjoyable and rewarding experience for the players. We also know that in the off season attendance can sometimes be less regular for some players so although we have teams there is plenty of room for any players to attend as and when they can make it and they will be fully included.
( The existing MYM and U14 Development team will continue to train with Ben in a separate gym)

WHAT IS SPRING LEAGUE ?

Spring League adds a competitive element to the training . The players from our current Under 16 NBL Squad , U14 NBL Squad & Under 16 Development Squads will be divided into 3 balanced teams .

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SESSION?

The weekly Tuesday sessions are from 6pm to 8pm .

6pm to 6.10pm ATHLETIC WARM UP

For injury prevention . The players will stretch and do warm ups to prepare their muscles for physical activity .

6.10pm To 6:30pm BASKETBALL SKILLS WARM UP

Coaches will run Basketball skill warms up for the whole group of which there are hundreds to choose from

6:30pm to 7pm TEAM COACHING

The players will spilt into their teams and receive coaching and execute drills with their team mates

7pm to 8pm ROUND ROBIN

Each of the 3 teams will play against each other in games with 2 x6 minute halfs. Winning teams will win 2 points for League Table , One point for a draw .

WHAT ARE THE RULE CHANGES?

For the Tuesday night Round Robins, as the 2x7 minute games are short games there are a few small changes to standard basketball rules :

- 2 Free throws worth one point each will be replaced with one Free Throw worth two points
- Plus One Baskets where the player has been fouled and still scored 2 points will have the extra point added automatically to make it 3 points without the requirement for Free Throw
- Delay Of Game ( Time Wasting) will result in change of possession at the next available game opportunity

WHAT ARE SUPER SATURDAYS?

On one Saturday in each of May, June & July . Two of the three teams will compete in a full 4 quarter match under NBL rules . Winners of the tie will be awarded 8 points in the ongoing League Table .

The players attendance on Tuesdays in Spring League are part of the monthly subscription package. (To cover the court costs for the additional Saturdays there will be a £6 charge on the day for players who participate)

WHO ARE THE TEAMS & COACHES?

All sessions will be supervised by either Coach David or/ and Coach Ibrar.

Each team will have a player who either plays for Calderdale Hawks or Calderdale Explorers Seniors who will run the teams . The teams will include a balanced mix of age groups and positions .

GOLDEN EAGLES wearing yellow will be coached by Anthony Dalfiume

WHITEHAWKS wearing white will be coached by Matthew Kay

SCARLET STORM wearing red will be coached by Sam Bamford

WHAT ARE GAME CHANGERS ?

For the majority of the Tuesday night round robin games normal rules will apply ( as above) . But on occasion we will have some exciting new GAME CHANGERS . As to what the FOUR game changers are they will be a nice surprise for the players when the time comes .
