As part of our community outreach we were recently invited by our friends at Active Calderdale to help celebrate the recent refurbishement of Mixenden Urban Park . As part of the refurbishment the outdoor basketball has been upgraded with a new court surface, new backboards and nets with lines freshly painted. The park also has a general play area and a new multi sports area .

The refurbishment was launched by a celebratory "Party in the Park " which was organised by Active Caderdale and included stalls, face painting , competitions. magicians, cycle runs and encouraged local people to come along and get involved. We were invited to have an exhibtion event followed by providing local children the opportunity to get involved and play some ball .

Ben and David , Explorer's longest serving coaches, attended and players from our Under 14 and Under 16 teams competed in an exhibtion match watched by people who attended . The exhibition match was hotly contested and for the first three quarters the lead changed hands regularily , until the fourth quarter where the yellow bibbed team put on a spurt against a tiring white bibbed team and ran out eventual winners with 67 points to 55 . Outdoor backboards and nets are notoriusly hard to score baskets in so the amounts of points scored by both teams is testemant to the skills of the players who attended. So we would to thank the players who volunteered to attend and of course the parents who facilitate their involvement .
